You know what’s unbelievable? The fact that I have lived in New York my entire life and I have never – not once – been to an Army football game. Pathetic, isn’t it? Well, that all changed today thanks to an invitation from some pretty great friends.
Our idyllic day started out – well – less than an ideal. It was rainy and cold, but we came prepared with our rain ponchos, our hats, our gloves and plenty of blankets. We enjoyed a catered brunch in the shadows of the Thayer Hotel and couldn’t help noticing the beautiful colors of fall in spite of the downpour.
Of course, even as I skipped through the rain and smiled in spite of my chill, my daughters complained. They complained that their feet were numb and they complained about the rain. They asked if we’d be leaving soon and they wondered why we didn’t simply have a playdate at home.
But, they did get a thrill when the cannons went off and they danced when the band played a good tune. They enjoyed the company of good friends and they were amused by the viking that tore through the crowd. And, at the end of our cold, rainy day, the cadets were still cute and the girls were still smiling.
